This timely webinar will explore current issues in nonprofit employee organizing for power. What concerns are driving the recent uptick in union drives at nonprofits? What different methods are employees using to gain power? And philosophically, how do these methods synch with concepts of liberatory power that some nonprofit staff and leaders are eager to explore?

The expert panel will discuss these questions frankly. Our topics include:

  • Many employees in community organizing and community service organizations want better hours and working conditions. Underfunding of programs by foundations and government grants often drives excessive workloads and poor compensation. What organizing strategies help workers in this terrain?
  • Employees in every sector want more inclusion in decision-making. How can self-organizing work toward this? Can self-organized structures work on a smaller scale, even if the whole organization doesn't adopt them?
  • Workers in every sector want more input into the mission and strategy of their organization. These things are legally exempt from the province of unionizing. How can unions help workers gain the influence, relationships, and skills they need to address this desire?
