In the wake of September 11, tremendous national attention was dedicated to the risks and complexities of safety and security in a global society. Nonprofit Quarterly invited practitioners, academics and advocates to share insight and opinion after the national tragedy. Many community-based nonprofits benefited from inter-organizational networking, some lacked the confidence to stand up to the media's attacks that donations were "mismanaged" and immigrant communities met resentment and injustice.
